Tom Thum presents Live From the Larynx
I would like to bring to your attention, for those who haven’t come across him before, the immense talent and creative mind of Tom Thum – beatbox extraordinaire, musician, MC and film maker. And to share his brand new web series Live from the Larynx .
I first met Tom in 2008 when he was performing with my brothers, the boys from the Circus & Hip Hop collision that was the Tom Tom Crew and I’ve kept track of his work ever since – he is also a top fella!
Tom regularly makes great videos (housed on his YOUTUBE channel) and I often go down the ‘rabbit hole’ and spend a lot of time checking out his work, I dig his film making, it is equally stylised & ‘real’ – sorry bro I couldn’t think of another word! Often filming and recording himself layering sounds into tracks – which brings a certain ‘workwith what you’ve got, simple-yet-stylish, down to earth feel to it’.
He has just released the 2nd episode of his new short form ‘Beatbox Doco’ web series Live from the Larynx [both episodes below] which both get medical – he has an Endoscope & MRI to see what’s actually going on when he makes the myriad of sounds he can produce and there’s some really sweet animation and editing choices going on! – So check them out –
But first (especially if you haven’t come across him before) to set the scene a little and give you an intro to the incredible skills of Tom, here’s the video that was the game changer – a live performance from the TEDxSydney event in 2013. To date it has been viewed over 58 million times! Attention well deserved.

Now I highly encourage you, if you have some time up your sleeve to go to his Youtube Channel and get lost for a little while – make sure you subscribe to keep up to date with the series.
