The Manifesto 17#
Instead of trying to peer around the corner in hopes of seeing what’s coming, move in for an intimate look at what’s happening right now.
Many of us try and deal with the unknowingness of life by making things fixed. This can sometimes manifest in us creating fixed stories about who we are. I’m a stressed person or I’m really unorganised, I’m an extrovert. We forget that we can be stressed at times and also relaxed. We can be organised in some areas of our life but not in others. We can be both extrovert and introvert. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. We are fluid and ever-changing. We are not fixed. We get attached to stories about ourselves and it makes us stuck. I’m not smart, I’m not creative. Says who? Sometimes we get so attached to our stories we don’t want to let them go. They keep us safe, from unknowingness, we keep them alive by retelling them to ourselves and others over and over. Instead of seeking out some elusive solid ground, some fixed way of being, can we become curious about exactly who and where we are today? Can we allow ourselves to take in the raw data coming through our senses and start to trust that letting go of fixed stories is safe. It’s an invitation to explore our lives with vigour knowing that this moment is unique and will never happen again.
