The Manifesto 13#
Are you a planner? … or do you go with the flow?
I’m a planner, sometimes weeks and months in advance. I LOVE planning. However, I’m aware that over planning is a way to avoid uncertainty. Trying to make everything as certain as possible. For me there is safety in certainty. Chaos feels out of control and emotionally dangerous.
But when I look at people that welcome uncertainty and live their life going with the flow I feel a pang of envy. What must that be like?
I can only imagine that there’s a feeling of flexibility, spontaneity and openness. Winging it.
So, there can be enjoyment in not knowing. Safety in chaos.
For me, would it be better to find moments of going with the flow in amongst my planning?
And for those who live in a state of constant spontaneity, could they benefit from finding more moments of pre-planning and preparation in amongst their flow?
Is it possible that being a Planner or being Spontaneous can be maladaptive if we get too rigid about either approach?
I’m going to practice some of these ideas this week and explore my spontaneity. You?
Are you a planner, or do you go with the flow?
