The Manifesto 12#
I explore values with my clients because they profoundly inform what we pursue every day and fundamentally shape the trajectory of our lives. Values give us direction and meaning. Whatever our values are, we need to regard them as qualities based on being and doing. When we live in line with our values and our moments are values connected there is a sense of being content, of creating a meaningful through-line in our life’s story.
Unsure of what your values are? Have a closer look at your pain. We hurt where we care. If you ask why it hurts you will have a powerful indicator of what you value. If being lied to deeply hurts you, you value honesty. If someone showed disloyalty to you and you felt hurt you can be certain that loyalty and commitment are values that are important to you. Feeling lonely or left out? Then you value being included or being connected to others.
Try being curious about your own values. There will be something in your experiences that connects you to the vital source of your values. Values can make each moment true to you. They nudge, invite and draw us forward. They can guide, encourage, give us direction and help us through life’s inevitable difficulties.
