The Manifesto The Manifesto 2# – Kareena Hodgson written by Hamish McCormick The Manifesto 2# Genuine courage and strength is required to lean into the parts of ourselves that we don’t like or that we refuse to acknowledge. This ‘shadow self’ can be a reservoir for human darkness but it can also be the birthplace of creativity. This is the fine line we walk as artists/performers and creatives. I see it in my clients and I feel it in myself. It is only through effort to become self-aware that we can recognise our shadow. If we are able to accept and understand these parts of ourselves, we are then more able to accept it and understand it in others. Everyone carries a shadow and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is. – Carl Jung Kareena. x www.the-manifesto.com.au Kareena Hodgson was a full-time professional international circus performer for 20 years, who is now an accredited Counsellor/life coach and The Manifesto is her professional consultancy. She is uniquely suited to working in the mental health space within the performing arts. She is also the Senior Editor, Executive Coach & Moral Backbone of Carnival Cinema. ——————————————————————————————————————————— We acknowledge the people of the Bundjalung Nation, traditional custodians of the land on which this Newsletter and the Magazine originates and pay our respects to their elders past, present and future.
