Mullum Circus Festival 2001
As the 2017 Mullum Circus Festival approaches I thought I’d take us back to the first Circus Festival that was held in my little home town courtesy of this gallery of photo’s taken by my dad – John W McCormick (pictured above).
The 2001 Festival was produced by Tony Rooke (National Circus Festival Founder) in conjunction with my alma mater – our super youth crew Spaghetti Circus (who currently produces the Mullum Circus Festival). The festival was centred in and around Circus Sunrise’s beautiful Big Top and this little series of pics features many great performers and friends who still roam the wilds of our community and a couple that are sadly missed. It tops off with a little sequence of The Happy Sideshow – which was their first proper introduction as a ‘show’ to the Australian scene. The Happy Sideshow changed the face of circus/sideshow in Aus and were a huge part of my life – Carnival Cinema was born out of my connection to that show, with myself and Captain Frodo starting it whilst still performing with them in 2003.
I hope you enjoyed that little trip down memory lane.
The 2017 Mullum Circus Festival runs – 29, 30 Sept & 1 Oct with a training project from the 25 – 28 September.
Cheers
Hamish
