The Manifesto 5#
Uncertainty
I’ve never been a fan. What about you? For some of us it’s kind of like our kryptonite. (while others I know have trouble keeping any certainty in their lives). For me and others like me we try and limit the amount of uncertainty in our lives as possible. However, the need to know the outcome or fear what the outcome might be can affect our well-being and quality of life. There is a tendency to hold on tight, too tight. Planning as far ahead as we can, surrounding ourselves and our loved ones with metaphorical crash mats just in case. This kind of thinking leads to perfectionism, control issues, stress and anxiety.
Only the present can be experienced as most certain. If that’s the case then ‘now’ is the time to find meaning in life, be grateful and take action towards your goals.
It’s daily work for me, but that’s the thing about change, its requires action and practice. I’ve discovered that it’s possible to thrive amid uncertainty, it’s about trusting yourself and embracing vulnerability. So how do we do it?
Detach from the things you cannot control, and focus on the ones you can, and know that sometimes, the only thing you will be able to control is your attitude toward something.
“I have devoted my life to uncertainty. Certainty is the death of wisdom, thought, creativity.” – Shekhar Kapur
