Fortnightly findings from the Editor in Chief.
Hello,
So we just celebrated the 3rd ‘International Bucket of Love Day’…
Marking the anniversary of the passing of my dear friend and inspiration Derek Ives (Candy Butchers, Rock n Roll Circus) – 20/03/1968 – 27/04/2016.
Funny how ‘present’ someone can be in one’s life after they have gone, negating the ‘gone’ bit. His life is remembered and celebrated by so many that he inspired and touched.
Three years ago when Derek passed away I was in Rio De Janeiro on tour with super muso’s and old friends Ben Walsh and Bobby Singh. We had a day off the morning I found out so I got them to come with me up to the famous ‘Christ the Redemeer’ on the hill knowing that D would have loved that.
As I ‘exited through the gift shop’ I bought a little Christ statue that sits on my window sill in my office (maybe slightly modified) and it reminds me of D and comforts my thoughts.
Last Saturday on this year’s Bucket of Love Day by classic Byron Shire cosmicness Ben and Bobby were doing an extremely rare local gig just up in the hills from my home. I hadn’t seen Bobby since leaving them in Rio so it was an interesting full 3 year circle. I took my dad on a son and father date to the gig.
Tears were shed.
Thoughts were had.
Good music absorbed.
It was a good night.
Here are some words from the man himself which I put up on the 1st Bucket of Love Day in 2017.
And on that note….
As always make sure you get off your computer, check out live shows and try and take a moment to check in with yourself and each other in real life,
Peace & respect,
Hamish
