In 2020 Carnival Cinema embarks on its biggest project to date – A quarterly printed magazine called Fluke.
It’s turbulent times here in Australia as fire continues to ravage this country and our social, political and environmental future feels sombre and full of angst. My heart goes out to all that have been affected by these fires and I have been devastated, as I’m sure most of you readers have, with the loss of animals, habitat, homes and human lives.
In amongst it though, there have been amazing examples of positive community building and humans banding together for the greater good.
With all that is going on I have been battling with whether I should be going ahead with this project. Sometimes it feels irrelevant and unimportant compared to the support that we need to give to help all affected by the fires as well as the work that needs doing to create positive change politically, socially and environmentally.
But then I get reminded that this project can add to that positive change and that we also need to celebrate, support and cultivate our amazing arts community more than ever or should I say the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications!
So in Feb, we will be launching our first edition of Fluke at the Adelaide Fringe Festival – I will post more details on here of how to get your hands on a copy soon.
Fluke is brought to you by myself, Hamish McCormick as Creative director, ‘Editor – in – Chief’ and publisher with the awesome Camille Manley, Fluke’s Art director, illustrator and designer – check her excellent work here: https://camillemanley.com.au/
Here’s a little taste of sections of our media kit – if you want to see the whole thing or want to advertise with us, there is a link below where you can download the whole kit.
