Briefs Close Encounters
A few months ago I had the pleasure of hanging out and documenting my bunch of beautiful idiot friends from Briefs as they premiered their new show Close Encounters at the Brisbane Powerhouse. It was a amazing birth of a show and I can only imagine how far the boys have developed it after rocking the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and World Pride in Madrid and the Underbelly Festival in London.
I have loved watching the journey and development of this company and its creative team over the years and Close Encounters definitely takes it up a notch. The boys are totally smashing it with their routines, Paul Lim’s lighting and tech design is amazing – makes a documenters job so much easier having a kick-arse lighting designer pointing the lamps and gadgets! The sound design by Busty Beatz (of Hot Brown Honey fame) is awesome and Dallas Dellaforce is making the boys shine with his excellent costume design.
Hats off to Fez Fa’anana and super producer/mumma Linda Catalano for steering the Briefs Factory ship (as well as the other awesome ships that sail in the fleet – Hot Brown Honey and Sweatshop) with love & stoicism powered by the smell of an oily rag! – Would be great to see Australian Arts Funding, throw more dosh to companies that are making important political statements through their art and making it super entertaining at the same time!!
Hope you enjoy the gallery of pics I snapped of the crew onstage and off and the little I video I shot n cut below (theres also their London Underbelly Festival Season promo vid).
Cheers
